dLA Piper recently announced the appointment of Benjamin Sandstad to the Hong Kong office where he will join the Finance & Projects team, bringing with him expertise in structured finance, securitisation and debt capital markets transactions.
Ben joins from Mayer Brown where he has been a partner in the Banking & Finance practice for two years. Ben has practiced law in Hong Kong, tokyo and Australia and has acted on domestic and international debt market transactions across a variety of jurisdictions, with a focus on acting for financial institutions and corporates on structured funding
transactions driven by tax, regulatory and/or funding requirements.

WItH nEW PARtnER olswang has boosted its Commercial Litigation offering with the recruitment of Partner Bernard o’Sullivan, who will join the firm from november 2013.
Previously the senior partner of Byrne and Partners LLP, Bernard specialises in regulatory investigations and commercial litigation, frequently acting for claimants and defendants in large civil fraud investigations with multi-jurisdictional elements. Bernard regularly advises on investigations by a wide variety of bodies in the UK and overseas, with experience in the BVI, Cyprus, Singapore, nigeria and tajikistan.
Bernard is recommended by both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners
guides and is praised for his “ability to see the bigger picture”.

PARtnER In JERSEY Appleby, one of the world’s largest providers of offshore legal, fiduciary and administration services, has announced the appointment of Michael Cushing to the role of office Managing Partner for the Jersey office.
Michael has been at Appleby in Jersey since 2005, and became a partner in 2008. He was admitted as a Solicitor in England in 1992 and called to the Jersey bar in 2007. Prior to coming to Jersey Michael was a partner in a large City law firm. Michael practices in the firm’s Litigation and Insolvency department and specialises in trust and complex commercial and corporate litigation.
Michael commented: “I am excited to be taking on this new role alongside my ex- isting litigation practice. We have a great team in Jersey and I am really looking forward to working with them to contribute to the continued success of the Group. First class client service will remain our key priority.”
