JULY 2013
What’s happening in the world of M&As and IPos?
Every month at Lawyer Monthly we take a look at what has been happening in the world’s M&A, IPo and fund markets over recent weeks.
Taking a look at this year’s activity so far, we can see from the Thomson Reuters M&A Legal Reviews for the first half of 2013 that worldwide M&A has fallen by 13% to US$996.8 billion; which is the slowest first half for M&A since 2009. It also shows that Energy & Power, Real Estate and Financials led activity during the first half of the year and that cross-border M&A activity was down by 34%.
In addition, the report also shows that M&A activity in the Emerging Markets is down by 7.1%, although deals in these markets do account for 29% of all M&A during the first half of the year, driven mostly by Chinese targets.
As we head into the second half of the year, it will be interesting to watch and wait to see how the rest of 2013 will progress for this type of activity across the world. LM
