Beauty matters
This month we catch up with Creative Academy’s Kerri McCoy, to uncover her life’s loves and passions.
I ended up in the beauty industry because…I was obsessed with nails. Even in school I used to get detention regularly for wearing neon nail polish!
If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would…Have left my job and moved careers into the beauty industry! I attended my first nail course at 16, so from a very early age I knew I wanted to work in beauty.
The best thing about my job is… Teaching a class and watching my students improve with education. It’s a really lovely feeling to know you’ve helped increase someone’s confidence, passion and hopefully clientele.
An average day for me is… Teaching a class, or taking orders by phone/email, or chatting to customers in the shop.
My ideal weekend would be… A swimming pool, sunshine, great company and a cocktail!
My favourite book is… Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding. It’s the sort of book that makes you laugh until you can’t breathe.
My favourite film is… The Hangover.
The most famous person I have met is…Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. I missed out on concert tickets earlier this year as they had sold out in ten minutes flat. I was on holiday last month in Las Vegas and visited a nightclub, and by chance they were performing.

My favourite part of the world is… Definitely Las Vegas - the lights, the shopping, the sunshine, the gambling! It’s a crazy place; everyone should try to visit at least once in their lifetime.
I could not live without… Gelish and my iPhone, which even has a Gelish cover.
My favourite beauty treatment is…Obviously it has to be Gelish. With over 150 colours to choose from, I’m always excited to try the next colour.
When growing up my role model was…My mother, Karen O Neill (MD of Creative Academy along with Marina Egan MD). They have both grown such a well-established business and have always put customer support as the number one priority. In these recession-hit times it is a testament to our customer care that the business, thankfully, is booming.
I would like to be remembered as…I’m 31 so I hope I have a long time left in me yet!
