Kontron announces 4th generation Intel Core processor support for a broad range of systems, boards and modules
Unique hand force measuring system
I
n many areas of research and industry a need exists for hand forces to be measured to assess mechanical loads and stresses on the body; in the ergonomics sector, recording and testing the operating forces at human-machine interfaces and for a range of technical design tasks. Typically, these forces are exerted during activities such as pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying loads. The new hand force measuring system from Kistler Instruments has been developed to meet the need to evaluate Repetitive Strain Injury (RPI) and other occupational health risks. In addition, the new system may be used to identify and quantify potential risks from handling loads over the course of a working life and for ergonomic and biomechanical load analyses as the basis for solving design, construction or relevant health & safety issues associated with new equipment an or working practices. The versatile system is ideal for measuring forces at the man- machine interface in the R&D laboratory to evaluate the forces required for specific activities for health and safety protection and for designing and testing machines and systems in the production environment. -

arallel to the launch of the 4th generation Intel Core processors,
Kontron announces its support of this new microarchitecture on a broad range of long-term available systems, boards and modules. Four intelligent platforms with improved processing and graphics performance as well as energy efficiency are available for evaluation with immediate effect. Customers benefit from significant time-to-market advantages, as they can directly start their application developments on their preferred new target
platform. The first Kontron intelligent platforms to feature the 4th generation Intel Core processors will be COM Express, Mini-ITX, 6U CompactPCI, and the Kontron SYMKLOUD Media cloud platforms. Based on the new Intel microarchitecture, formerly codenamed ’Haswell’, they integrate new features such as the Intel AVX2 instructions, which dramatically accelerate floating-point-intensive computations and the improved Intel AES-NI, which accelerates data encryption and decryption. Graphics-intensive applications will profit from the graphics performance which has been doubled in comparison to solutions based on the previous generation processors, while the thermal footprint has remained nearly the same. “With our early launch parallel to the introduction of the new processor technology on a rich selection of standard embedded computing platforms, we are enabling our OEM customers to kick-start the development of their latest state-of-the-art intelligent systems. Both OEMs and users will benefit from improved graphics capabilities and impressive computing power that come along with a more eco-friendly power consumption in operating as well as in sleep mode,” said Norbert Hauser, Executive Vice President, Marketing at Kontron. “This very efficient sleep mode will not only reduce energy consumption but will also change the way mobile systems or stationary devices are used,” says Sam Cravatta, Product Line Manager, Intel Intelligent Systems Group. . “New application areas will emerge as well as improvements in existing designs in market segments such as industrial, retail, communications, medical, and infotainment.”

New Heavy-Duty Cables for use in Cable and Hose Carriers
U
nder the TRAXLINE product line KABELSCHLEPP Metool offers cables designed specifically for use in cable and hose carriers. These cables withstand several million load cycles, are RoHS-compliant, oil-resistant, CFC- and silicone-free as well as flame-retardant and UV-resistant. Thanks to their polyurethane (PU) sheath, these new cables are also absolutely weather- resistant and thus ideal for use outside. In production processes, high-performance cameras are being used increasingly to measure and monitor workpieces and products. In addition, cameras that transmit images to the operator's cab are indispensable on cranes or other large,
difficult-to-navigate vehicles. Such applications present challenging requirements for the cables used in cable carriers. With the DVI 700 C and Firewire 700 CD, KABELSCHLEPP Metool offers two extremely heavy-duty cables for fast image processing. The DVI 700 C has been designed for rapid transmission of video data from individual cameras in particular and can be used over a temperature range of 0 to +70°C. This cable

is thus well-suited, for instance, for use in cable carriers on cranes or for rearview cameras on wreckers. With its high transmission rates and thus fast data transfer, the Firewire 700 CD is the alternative for use with existing USB interfaces. The Firewire 700 CD from KABELSCHLEPP Metool is thus ideal for applications where several camera systems must view a product simultaneously from different sides. The Firewire 700 CD has been designed for temperatures of -5 to +50° C and in conjunction with the polyurethane sheath is predestined for use where a heavy-duty cable is required. With the CAT5e 700 C and Cat 6 700 C, TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP has developed a cable for data transmission in cable carriers. The transmission rates remain stable in spite of millions of load cycles in the cable carrier. These cables have a temperature range of -5 to +50°C, feature increased crosstalk damping and thus minimize potential interference during data transfer. If especially fast data transfer is required, the CAT6 700 C from KABELSCHLEPP Metool is the solution. These cables are ideal for operating frequencies up to 205 MHz and can be used at temperatures from -20 to +65° C. KABELSCHLEPP Metool provides the bridge between PROFIBUS and PROFINET with the Profinet 700 C. This twisted-pair cable meets both PROFIBUS and PROFINET standards and can be used for the data transmission in both networks. Moreover, the Profinet 700 C is Fast Connect-capable and has been designed for a temperature range of -20 to +60°C. KABELSCHLEPP Metool is addressing the ever-increasing demand for a heavy- duty 75-ohm single coax cable for use in cable carriers with the Coax 700 C. The Coax 700 C single cable also withstands several million load cycles in a cable carrier.
