aluminium and

polyamide for the identification of terminals cables and devices within electrical installations. The complete marking solution from Weidmuller includes printing and marking systems as well as printer software with CEA/CAD interfaces. The PrintJet ADVANCED is able to print 6,000 markers in just 45 minutes.

The ink-jet printer uses

water-based inks with integrated thermal fixing and offers print qualities of 600 or 1200 dpi. In addition, the integrated,

adjusting thermal fixing of the PrintJet ADVANCED ensures ease of maintenance, cost-savings and longevity. It offers surface sealing that is qualitatively very stable and makes markers for the industrial environment that are extremely resistant and durable. The metal markers in particular have proved to be highly resistant to many different chemicals, cleaning agents and UV emissions. The PrintJect ADVANCED has full plug and play functionality and delivers excellent print quality.

It

can be used to print coloured or black markings for protection classes IP20 or IP67, including warning symbols or data matrix codes. An embedded PC means that jobs can be implemented quickly because the necessary software components and standard layouts are pre-installed. In just one operational sequence, with one printer and one software application, a user can create standards-compliant industrial markings in practically all areas of industry.

eliable background suppression and colour-independent detection with switch point setting to the nearest centimetre are the outstanding features of the new OID and O5D photoelectric sensors from ifm electronic. The PMDLine sensors even detect shiny surfaces such as stainless steel without difficulty.

OID and O5D will sense an object at a

distance of 2m, even against a background, and as such could be used to replace retro-reflective sensors. These new developments employ time-of- flight measurement to combine the advantages of long ranges, reliable background suppression, visible red light and high excess gain in one unit. In the same price range as conventional sensors, the O5D and OID are clever alternatives to normal sensors at no extra cost. Another advantage

is its ease of use and switch point setting to the nearest centimetre. The O5D features "+/-" buttons and a display, while the OID can be set with a simple turn of the setting ring. A scale shows the distance set, in centrimetres or inches. The switch point can thus be set prior installation.

he possibility of residual dust build up, leading to a low-level risk of explosion is quite prevalent in many industries. Areas where this risk is identified should be classified as a Zone 22, requiring ATEX Equipment Category 3D for any control products in use where the risk is present. To comply with the requirements for 3D, sensors and other products must now comply with a standard such as IEC60079-31. [While other protection concepts are available, for Zone 22 equipment, rugged, dust-tight enclosure is the most appropriate for sensors].The new range of ATEX 3D inductive and capacitive sensors from ifm electronic is fully compliant.

This is no mean feat, as the requirements

for IEC60079-31 are greatly enhanced in comparison with earlier standards. In order for the manufacturer to certify products to IEC60079-31, sensors must be tested to withstand a 4 Joule impact (ten times the previous requirement) even if the operator takes precautionary measures when fitting them. This is made harder by the fact that plastics must be conditioned, i.e. artificially aged, before the impact test.

he latest generation of inductive proximity switches from sensor market leader ifm electronic is ready for a wide range of applications. Characterised by wider operating temperatures and ultimate sealing the new range, known as NT, are designed for use where up to now standard sensors would be hard pressed to survive. ifm’s new NT range of inductive sensors will work in oils and coolants, as well as generally wet areas, as they are fully tested to IP 65, IP 66, IP 67, IP 68 and IP 69K for maximum reliability. Not content with the seal, ifm understands proximity sensors like no other, so has designed this new range to operate at 40 ° below zero, or up as high as 85 °C.

T This wide

temperature range means application in cold stores or on mobile machinery can be handled with ease. New manufacturing methods are employed in the construction of the NT, permitting tighter tolerances in performance,

thus enhanced reliability for

machine operators. The NT range has started with 60mm long connector versions of standard M12, M18 and M30 housings, flush or non-flush, pnp or npn, all with industry-standard M12 connection. Further units are under development.
