Imagine It Was Us PMR/Island 7.0

Julio Bashmore wraps up this latest from Island’s modern soul siren, Jessie Ware, in a gossamer, mid-’80s- style boogie/soul production. Remixes to follow.

My Favorite Robot Looking for Frost (Juan MacLean & Louie Fresco

Remixes) No.19 7.5

Both Juan MacLean and Louie Fresco work dreamy, panoramic disco effects into their respective techno mixes of this new My Favorite Robot number.

Out Cold All I Want (Ewan Pearson

Mirror People Kaleidoscope (Psychemagik and

Xinobi Remixes) Discotexas 8.0

Cosmic disco duo, Psychemagik, drop a suitably trippy version; whilst Xinobi gets busy with the clavinet for an authentic disco fix. Top stuff.

The Knocks feat St Lucia

Modern Hearts

(Goldroom Remix) A&M Octone 7.0

Goldroom flips the original into an ‘80s- style pop crossover, with jangling guitar and dreamy synth patterns for extra Balearic points.

Abstraxion Dark Knight EP (It’s A Fine

Line & Tim Paris Remixes) Marketing 9.0

Ahead of a full-length for My Favorite Robot later in the year, this primer on Tim Paris’ Marketing label stirs some anticipation for what is to come. The original material boasts steely, primitive techno/ new-wave rhythms inspired by the colder, more inhospitable European sound of new beat; bolstered by two killer remixes from Tim and studio partner Ivan Smagghe as It’s A Fine Line. The duo fold a noir-ish touch into three different, idiosyncratic versions of the lead tune — the results are brilliantly skewed and wonderfully stylish.

The label examines the function of the club with these six, stripped- back, reduced tools that dabble in proto-house, new-wave and vintage European-style synth music. The EP features Comeme regulars, Alejandro Paz, Christian S and the rarely-sighted Matias Aguayo delivering the goods; whilst the remainder is a sterling selection from new talent, Gladkazuka, Lechuga Zafiro and Charisma. Hailing from Colombia, Uruguay and Argentina, these three new label recruits bear outrageously catchy tracks of disco noir and Chi Town style box jams, inspired by the heady club culture of their respective cities. An inspired selection that attests the label’s reputation as being one of the most original and exciting today.

Coldgeist

Collapse Correspondant 8.5

Jennifer Cardini’s excellent Correspondant label releases a new single following ‘Compilation 01’, which featured the likes of Daniel Avery, Philipp Gorbachev, Daniel Maloso and Barnt. ‘Collapse’ is an icy-cool amalgam of Motor City-inspired synths and jagged, old school electro bass, that includes a robust Robbi ‘Headman’ Insinna remix to offset the mood. The brilliantly titled B-side, ‘Sat On the Devil’s Left’ is an eerie score that comes with a sturdy club fix from Matt Walsh, who indulges us with a few modulated disco effects along the way.

Hardway Bros.

A:B Musique/Shorty Throne of Blood 10

Sean Johnson has been busy of late; entertaining clubland alongside Andrew Weatherall with their A Love From Outer Space parties and keeping on top of a hectic production/remix schedule, including this gem for Throne of Blood. A double- jointed, slo-mo EBM shocker, ‘A:B Musique’ has been arresting dancefloors all over, with added sonic alchemy from Timothy J. Fairplay. Flip it over for a stunning remix of ‘Shorty’ by Scott Fraser, who brews up something that sounds like Mr. Fingers’ ‘Washing Machine’ on ‘ludes. Killer.

Remixes) Heavenly 9.0

Simon Aldred of indie-pop troupe, Cherry Ghost, goes solo and adds a touch of dreamy psychedelia to his Out Cold debut, ‘All I Want’. Choosing to reflect the mood of recent plays at Andrew Weatherall’s A Love From Outer Space, Ewan Pearson fashions a superb electronic dub version with a low-end that nods to ‘80s sample/dub legends, Colourbox. Climaxing at 100 bpm, you’ll need this if you’re looking to create a wonderfully out-there dancefloor moment.

Rex the Dog Do You Feel What I Feel

(Remixes) Southern Fried 8.0

Jake ‘JX’ Williams is back with a new disco/techno hybrid upon being picked up by Southern Fried. Aiding this Sommerville/ Bronski Beat-inspired original are remixes from Hercules & Love Affair alumni Kim Ann Foxman, Tiger & Woods, Jacques Renault and Riva Starr. Tiger & Woods tame the original’s mood with boogie touches, but it’s Kim Ann’s spiralling acid disco fix that’s the highlight, working in a dramatic touch alongside Jamie McDermott’s falsetto.

Shit Robot

Feels Real DFA

8.0

Hi-NRG tribute from Shit Robot, weighing in with this dazzling, Cowley-inspired production, featuring vocalist Luke Jenner playing the part of Sylvester. Removing most of the polished disco veneer, Luke Solomon provides a remix that nods towards late ‘80s Chicago, flipping the mood entirely with some filthy acid squelches.

Space Coast

After Midnight EP Paper Recordings 7.5

Enjoying its recent revival, former UK deep house label, Paper Recordings, is back with a new EP from Space Coast aka Sleazy McQueen (who adopts this tag for these more analogue, vintage house productions), including a remix assortment of featured tracks, ‘Aqua Tongue’ and ‘Just Past Midnight’. The mood reaches from the early sound of Nu Groove to mid-tempo, Balearic- influenced rhythms.
