Rumours of a second Ferrari World theme park, possibly in Europe, have circulated for some time, but that could now become a reality if recent comments by a senior company spokesman are to be believed. “We’ve been approached by many different countries around the world and we are looking at that business as an opportunity to leverage the brand,” Andrea Perrone, Ferrari’s senior vice-president of brand leadership, told Gulf News recently. “I can’t disclose the location but there will be another theme park within two years,” Perrone added. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi opened in the United Arab Emirates capital in 2010, and now attracts around 800,000 visitors a year, according to reports.

It is no secret that New England’s weather is very unpredictable and regrettably sunny skies are not always forecast, but now if conditions cause a majority of the park's rides to close for an extended period, a complimentary return pass will be offered on production of a paid ticket stub at guest relations. Six Flags New England is the first park within the Six Flags group to implement such a programme.


Merlin Entertainments has announced an AUS$8 million, five-month refurbishment plan for Australia’s Melbourne Aquarium, which it will rebrand under its Sea Life banner. When complete, the new look Sea Life Melbourne will feature 12 new discovery zones.


For its 33rd season, Canada’s Wonderland, Vaughn, Ontario, is adding new live entertainment including Starlight Spectacular – Illumination of Water, which will dazzle audiences nightly with fountains, colourful lighting and special effects to set to inspirational music, against the backdrop of Wonder Mountain. Cirque Ambiente will perform inside the Wonderland Theatre, while British Invasion features the songs of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Spice Girls, Adele, One Direction and many other UK stars.

But which ride really is the tallest? Six Flags wins it. According to information received from Funtime, the ride in Texas is 123m tall, whereas Gröna Lund’s is “just“ 120m. So there you have it!

Polin Waterparks & Pool Systems has just appointed Volkan Sofuoglu to head its new technical operations and after sales department. Sofuoglu previously served as head of the project management with ThysennKrupp’s elevator and escalator business in Germany. In his new position at Polin, headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, he will manage three departments now housed under one umbrella as a result of a recent review assessing the company's expectation for growth over the next five years.


Fogscreen has opened a new showroom in Helsinki, allowing customers to see the Finnish company’s range of mist curtains and displays, and quiz sales staff as to how they might apply them to their attractions or businesses. Park World reckons they work wonderfully in dark rides!


It would have been an unusual new “attraction” for an amusement park, but the owners of Holiday Park in Hassloch, Germany, recently tried to buy the former US presidential plane Air Force One. The Plopsa group believed the aircraft, which was in service from 1975 until 2005, would be of interest to families visiting the park from a nearby an American air base. Its €50,000 bid via the website GSA Auctions was rejected.
