Tamagas! Guatemala waterpark adds
water coaster
Latin America’s first waterslide coaster featuring LIM (linear induction motor) technology has been installed at Xocomil Waterpark in Guatemala. Named after a South American snake, the 1,007ft-long (307m) Tamagas from WhiteWater uses magnetic propulsion to blast riders up six hills with a mega drop of 43ft (13m) at the end.
Up to four passengers can be accommodated in each inflatable boats. Sat inline, they can opt to wear bathing suits or street clothing, allowing them to stay relatively dry. Marketed by WhiteWater as the AdrenaLIM Blaster, Xocomil is newest addition to the conpany’s Master Blaster water coaster range, and the first to use LIM technology (previous versions used water propulsion). Xocomil is the largest and most visited waterpark in Guatemala, operated on a not-for-profit basis by IRTRA. Designed around a Mayan pyramid, the award-winning 77,300 sq m facility features other WhiteWater attractions including a Multi-Lane Mat-Racer, Boomerango, SuperBowl, dual Wave Pools and two recently-installed AquaLoops. The park is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013.

debuts Iron Rattler Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio has unveiled one of North America’s most anticipated new coasters. Supplied by Rocky Mountain Construction, the Iron Rattler combines a classic wooden support structure with modern track and rails crafted of steel, allowing for smooth and swift over-banked turns and inversions of the kind never before experienced on either a traditional steel or wooden coaster.
Seated in 24-passenger trains, passengers plummet down an 81-degree drop from a height of 180ft (55m) reaching a top speed of 70mph (113 kph), then snake through four wild over-banked turns and inversions. Iron Rattler is the first coaster to deliver a zero-G inverted barrel roll. The ride boasts the bragging rights of the tallest, steepest and fastest hybrid coaster in the world. As well as camelback airtime and a freefall into a quarry tunnel, the coaster also features several special effects including fog, water cannon blasts, dramatic, synchronised tunnel lighting and even rattlesnake sounds and vibrations!
