“Describe life on the farm before SWRE brought electricity to southwest Oklahoma and north Texas in 1937.” That is the topic that 8th grade students throughout Southwest Rural Electric Association’s service area in Oklahoma and Texas considered recently in the 2013 SWRE Energy Camp Essay Contest. Top prize for one Oklahoma student and one Texas student is an all-expense paid trip to Touchstone Energy Camp at Red Rock Canyon in western Oklahoma. The winners and eight finalists also receive $50 cash prizes.

Winners of the contest are Brady Aderholt of Vernon, Texas, and Alexandra Gonzalez of Blair, Oklahoma. Brady is the son of Lisa and Ken Aderholt, and a student of Misti Dicker- son at Vernon Middle School. Alexandra is the daughter of Noelia Stanislaus of Blair. She is a student of Kim Burks at Blair Middle School.

Eight other students from throughout the SWRE service area have been cited as finalists in the essay contest and are recipients of $50 cash prizes. Oklahoma finalists are Cortni Haight from Tipton Middle School, daugh-

ter of Beth and Eddie Haight and student of Misti Tyler; Lucky Haston, Davidson School, son of Racquel and Rodney Haston, and student of Jana Cobb; Aaron Luna, Frederick Middle School, son of Cindy and Fernando Luna, and student of Classie Nolan; and Rebecca Tamblyn, Navajo School, daughter of Amy and John Tamblyn, and student of Carrie Thorn- ton. Texas finalists are Alyssa Fletcher, Electria Junior High, daughter of Amanda and Christopher Fletcher, and student of Cheryl Kays; Trevor Johnson, Crowell School, son of Angie and Doug Johnson, and student of Lorie McMahon; Jacob Reed, Northside School, son of Mandy and Bryan Reed of Vernon, and student of Kimberli Prewitt; and Halle Woodard, Vernon Middle School, daughter of Letisha and Zackery Woodard, and student of Tiffany Cherry. “Supporting local education has always been a top priority for our members,” said Mike Hagy, SWRE’s chief executive officer. “We are pleased to be able to recognize these excellent 8th grade students.” The annual Youth Energy Camp Contest is open to any 8th grader who attends school or resides in the SWRE service area.
