carrying a drumhead for the New England States, was one of two rounded-end observa- tion cars on display, along with the 1948 Hick- ory Creek. LEFT BOTTOM: Classic signs for classic trains flanked the display tracks, such as this reproduction “gate curtain” for the 20th Century Limited. BELOW: Feeling right at home, the Hickory Creek was at the bumper post of track 35, a position it often had while in regular service on the 20th Century Limited from the time it was built by Pullman in 1948 until 1967. Based in New Jersey, this historic car was presented by Star Trak. OPPOSITE: Grand Central Terminal’s Main Concourse was busier than normal both days, with a reported 35,000 people passing through on Saturday, May 11. Across the concourse, large crowds jam into Vanderbilt Hall to see a railroadiana sale and display along with numerous activities for kids.
