wo Americans have been appointed to the inaugural World Curl- ing Federation (WCF) Athlete Commission and the fi rst Com- petitions and Rules Commission, the WCF announced April 30. Mark Swandby (Madison, Wis.), a past president of the United States
Curling Association (USCA) and current board member and WCF repre- sentative, has been nominated to the Competition and Rules Commission. Ann Swisshelm (Chicago), reigning U.S. women’s national champion and USCA board member, has been appointed to the WCF Athlete Commis- sion. T e WCF Athlete Commission will be chaired by 2002 Olympic gold
medallist and WCF Vice President Bent Ramsf ell of Norway. Six athletes have been selected by the WCF Executive Board from a pool nominated by WCF member associations to form the inaugural WCF Athlete Commis- sion. T ey include: two-time Olympic gold medallist and two-time world champion Cathrine Lindahl of Sweden; 2009 world champion Bingyu Wang of China; 2007 world champion Kelly Scott of Canada; 2003 world champion Swisshelm from the USA; two-time world wheelchair curling champion and Paralympic silver medallist Michael McCreadie from Scot- land; and 2006 European champion Andreas Schwaller from Switzerland. One of their fi rst tasks will be to fi nalize the remit of the WCF Athlete
Commission and also recommend to the WCF Executive Board the selec- tion process for future members of the Commission. T e Competition and Rules Commission will be chaired by WCF Presi-
dent Kate Caithness and WCF Director of Competi- tions and Development, Keith Wendorf. T is Commission is comprised of individuals nominated by WCF member associations who are involved in both the development and administration of curling. T e six members include: (Sweden);

John Brown (England); Hew Chalmers (Scotland); Karel Kubeska (Czech Republic); Danny Lamoureux (Canada); and Swandby (USA). T ese individuals will provide advice and recommendations to the WCF Executive Board, and through them to the Member Associations of the WCF, on matters relating to competitions and rules. “Ann and I are very pleased to be appointed to these important commis-
sions,” Swandby said. “T e World Curling Federation is to be commended for providing elite curling athletes with a direct voice in its decisions. Rules and competition are central to the mission of the WCF. We look forward to providing input as the WCF continues to develop curling throughout the world.” ■
