USWCA positioned for new phase of growth

By: Bridget Matzke, USWCA President

working with the many women of this organization. I am excited about all the changes that are now taking place. Tere have been many challenges along the way as there always are with change, but I have been very proud of the way the women of the USWCA have stepped up and tackled those challenges. Tese changes place us in a better position to handle the growth spurt that will surely come with the interest generated in curling by the 2014 Winter Olympics. sorship is increasing, and excitement is growing. I am very delighted about this event as it fills a need at the grassroots level as a next step to more com- petitive curling. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the circuit … we offer cash prizes, ladies! And, it’s also great fun. Te strategic planning that was begun by Nancy Seitz and continues

today under the able guidance of Dawn Gutro has started to pay off big dividends for us. We are more focused than ever before working to promote women’s curling and our junior programs. Last fall I mentioned that this year the website would be my main focus.

I have been working closely with Nancy Wilhelm to make that a reality. I am delighted with all that has been accomplished in such a short time. Many fantastic changes have already taken place, one of which is our new webmaster. Beginning in May, Dae Jean Jahnke will be taking over the day-

t is hard to believe that my year as president of the USWCA is almost over. I leave with a little sadness but much excitement about the fu- ture growth of the USWCA. I have thoroughly enjoyed this year and

to-day management of the website. Dae Jean brings years of experience working in the computer industry to the table. She is also a gal who likes to get the job done … yester- day! So I am really looking forward to our website becoming a more vi- able source of info for our members.

Te website is up-to-date and becoming more user friendly. I urge you to have a look at the new and improved site at www.USWCA.org. Our annual meeting was a great success this year followed by the 65th

National Women’s Bonspiel held in Portage, Wis. Tis bonspiel is the oldest National Bonspiel in the U.S. Pretty amazing to me to think this has gone on for 65 years without a break. We are so happy that Portage has come back as a member of the USWCA and their ladies won the first event! I passed the gavel at the February meeting to Shelley Dropkin. Shelley

brings a wealth of experience from many areas in the curling world to our organization. She will do a great job. Te past presidents of the USWCA have been a great support to me this

year. Each of you has leſt your mark on our organization. You have been an inspiration to me personally. I want to thank all of you for your continued support of the USWCA. I have so many great memories of the USWCA and curling. Tere is no

greater group of people in the world as great as the people of the curling world. Many thanks to all of you who made this past year so enjoyable for me. I am proud to call you my friends. n
