Nationals title just one year aſt er Em Good brought home the area’s fi rst women’s title. Kauff man (Edmonds, Wash.) and teammates John Rasmus- sen (Edmonds, Wash.), Ken Trask (Seattle) and Liam Barksdale (Seattle) defeated Jeff Wright’s Illinois rink from the host Exmoor Curling Club in the men’s fi nal, 9-1. T e medal is an upgrade for the Granite Curling Club teammates, who last year earned silver. In the women’s division, Nicole Reiser (Bismarck, N.D.) led her team to a gold-medal victory, the fi rst for the North Dakota region. “It is surreal winning the club national title. We played well all week

despite a few minor things that we tweaked as the week went on,” Reiser said. “It seemed to come together in the semi and more so in the fi nal. T e competition at Club Nationals prepares us for our dream of representing the U.S. at the world level some year, aſt er we take some time to spend with our growing families.” T e bronze medals this year were won by Wisconsin’s Mark Olson

(Janesville, Wis.) and North Dakota II’s Beth Bohlman (Grand Forks, N.D.) rinks. “We are very happy to have won the Club Championships this year,”

Kauff man said. “Granite Curling Club has now won 46 national champi- onships if you count all of the diff erent categories, and we are very happy to have contributed to that number! All of the teams and competitors were great guys to play, and we look forward to the opportunity to come back in the following years. A big thank you to Russ Armstrong, the volunteers, and to Exmoor Country Club for a great week.” Reiser (Mandan, N.D.) and teammates Michelle Wagner (Bismarck,

N.D.), Corrina Stroh (Bismarck, N.D.) and Roxanne Howes (Mandan, N.D.) defeated two-time Club Nationals champion Norma O’Leary of Minnesota, 8-6. T e game was tied 3-3 aſt er four ends when Reiser’s Capi- tal Curling Club team scored a deuce and then stole two more to take their lead to 7-3. O’Leary (Silver Bay, Minn.) and teammates Jill Hansen (Du- luth, Minn.), Mary Shields (Duluth, Minn.), Patti Luke (Duluth, Minn.), and Anna Bauman (Duluth, Minn.) were held to a single in the seventh end but stole points in the next two ends to pull within a point. However, North Dakota had the advantage of the fi nal shot in the 10th end and scored a point to earn the fi rst title for North Dakota. “T ere were so many things that made the event such a memorable one.

One of the highlights of the event was meeting curlers from around the country. T e camaraderie amongst the curlers was present even when the competition was tough,” Howes said. “All of the teams played at a high

level of competition, which contributed to the success of the event. Addi- tionally, there were numerous people behind the scenes at the event who worked to make it a huge success. We also had support from a number of people from our home state that cheered us on, and provided us emotional and fi nancial support. Simply participating in the event was an honor, and winning it was frosting on the cake.” ■
