SUHR LEADS ASSAULT ON RECORD BOOKS DURING 2013 INDOOR SEASON
Days prior to the start of the 2013 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Jenn Suhr’s husband and coach, Rick Suhr, said that if he and Jenn could get enough time getting used to the runway inside the Albuquerque Convention Center, he felt they could make an attempt at the world record in the women’s pole vault. He held that much confidence in the facility.
Little did he know that in a few days the duo would be celebrating the most electrifying performance of the 2013 U.S. indoor season.
In claiming her seventh career USA Indoor title in the women’s pole vault, Suhr progressed all the way through the world indoor record before missing a single height. It became clear the 2012 Olympic gold medalist picked up right where she left off in London.
Suhr bettered her own American record before clearing the world record height (5.02m/16-5.5) on her first attempt. It was the ninth American record established for Suhr in six years and her first world record. The previous world record was held by Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva in 2012.
The world record for Suhr was the highlight to an indoor season
