New York Association
“Telling the track and field world just how great our athletes
performed. Exclamation Services helps us to do just that.”
Primerano collaborated with Randall’s Island Park Alliance for the Youth Challenge Series. The series debuting in 2012 features youth track meets held at
their current members. These organizations include the NYC Parks Department,
Randall's Island Park Alliance, New York Road Runners, Global Athletics & Marketing, Catholic Youth Organization, AAU, Nike
Team Nationals, National Scholastic Sports Foundation, and The Armory Foundation just to name a few.
Primerano acknowledges success with the current partners, but the organization still has mountains to climb with those partnerships, not to mention establishing new alliances.
Growth in membership is another top concern for Primerano and the board of directors. The previous association had 2050 members before USATF changed governance. USATF New York claimed more than 2900 members by the end of 2012. Projections for 2013 are looking upward.
“We want to be an organization people want to join, not one they have to join,” said Sherry Quack, USATF manager of associations. “[The New York association is] doing some great things and we expect to continue to see their numbers grow.”
As the organization multiplies, they fret about losing their identity - losing those unique qualities which appealed to their original members. The association offers special member-only VIP opportunities for constituents feeling disconnected from the circle they originally joined.
“[The New York association] sees no reason we cannot reach 10,000 members in the next few years,” Primerano said. “The sky is the limit, as far as I am concerned.”
The association has made important professional strides such as enlisting the services of an outside agency to assist in general marketing and outreach efforts, social media presence and website content.
“Following a national event, like a masters championship, we want a full-blown press release going out,” Primerano said.
“We want to create a positive experience for our athletes, coaches, and parents,” Primerano said. “Our focus is to offer well-run meets with awards immediately after races, results live on the internet, and videos and photos being posted to social media.”
In addition to hosting events showcasing the next generation of track and field stars, the Association started “The Road to London” twilight series in May of 2012. The three-meet event provided opportunities for athletes seeking Olympic Trials qualifying times. Masters athletes were eligible to compete as well.
Icahn Stadium. The annual meet attracts close to 1200 athletes. The series launched for the second year on April 14 with three subsequent meets to follow.
USATF New York
The series returns this summer with three meets in May, followed by the East Region Open Track & Field Championships in mid-June at the same venue.
USATF New York is an elite association with less than two years of experience. Primerano and the board of directors’ drive and dedication show in their recent success. The execution in staging quality events and programs is evident, and athletes are responding to the positive change.
