DAN BLACKSHEAR founded Albany Realty Company in 1959, and through the years held many leadership roles on the local, state and national levels of the REALTOR®
organization,
as well as other real estate-related organizations. Originally appointed by then-Governor Jimmy Carter, Dan served as a member of the Georgia Real Estate Commission (GREC) from 1971- 1987, and was Chairman for 14 of those years. Dan was a member of the GRI Board ofGov- ernors, and was a member of the first GRI graduating class in 1971. In 1972, Dan received the REALTOR®
of the Year award for the Albany Board and for GAR.
Dan served as the President of the Albany Board of REALTORS® of the Georgia Association of REALTORS®
in 1967 and as President (GAR) in 1974. He also served as President
of theNational Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (NARELLO – now known as ARELLO) from 1978-79. Dan passed away in 1989, but his children, Bonny Black- shear Dorough and Charles Daniel Blackshear, Jr., still run the family business.
SALLY WASHBURN began her real estate career in 1960, and joined the Atlanta Board that
same year. In 1964, she opened Washburn Realty with her husband, Thomas L.Washburn, Jr., and later joined Northside Realty, where she attained Life Member status in the Million Dollar Club in less than three years. In 1981, Sally was appointed vice president and managing broker of the North Springs office. Senator Johnny Isakson – who was Northside Realty’s Pres- ident at that time – also appointed Sally as developer of a coaching and mentoring program for new sales associates. Throughout her career, Sally served the Atlanta Board (ABR) in many capacities. Sally was
the first woman elected to the Board of Directors. In 1976, she accomplished two ABR “firsts” as a woman – she was elected President of the Board and was honored with the REALTOR® of the Year award. Sally also served GAR in many capacities, including 15 years on the Board of Directors. She served as President of the Georgia Chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®
and two terms as a Governor for the National Women’s Council of REALTORS® Sally received several accolades throughout her career, including the 1988 Woman of the Year from the Georgia Chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® from the National Chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® time Commitment Award from Northside Realty in 1997, and REALTOR® from the National Association of REALTORS®
. , the Jade Award
, the E.A. Isakson Life- Emeritus status
in 2006. Sally passed away in June 2009, and
is remembered by ABR each year through the Sally O. Washburn Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes one member each year who demonstrates lifetime dedication to the board and to the industry.
