F
or two days, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad pulls the seats
out of two cars, creating open-air gondolas for blues bands at each end of the train. Seats in other cars make way for a dance fl oor and solo performers. Onboard guests can move from end of this rolling, multi-stage concert to the other during the three and a half hour
roundtrip from Durango to Silverton and back. Performers this year will include blues artists Peter Karp and Sue Foley, currently on tour along the East Coast, the Midwest and California. Steve Gumble, president of the production
company, says he’s been a blues fan since listening to a Muddy Waters CD in college. He launched the Blues Train experience after a friend invited him aboard the train. “We saw a mountain lion, a black bear,
big horn sheep, and I decided this was too special not to do something,” Gumble told EnCompass. Purchase tickets online, on the phone, or
by visiting the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot, 479 Main Ave., Durango.
