fans of the paranormal. On May 2-5, it will host the inaugural Stanley Film Festival, with “the best in independent horror cinema.” “Haunted” guest rooms include the Stephen King Suite 217. I prefer staying above the verandah, which has given me on more than one occasion a front-row seat to a summer wedding. The Stanley is the start of my road trip

through four national parks, each with historic and surprising hotels. From the Stanley, drive the 48-mile-long Trail

Ridge Road (U.S. 34) from Estes Park through Rocky Mountain National Park. (Snow closes U.S. 34 from mid-October to mid-June. RVs are not allowed.) You’re on your way to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. The park-to-park trip can be made in one very

Wyoming, where the road becomes WY-789. Once you reach I-80, head west toward Rock Springs, then north on U.S 191 where you can enter Grand Teton through the upscale ski town of Jackson. At Moose Junction, turn onto Teton Park Road to Jackson Lake Lodge. But don’t rush. Stop at every pullout, camera ready. Unfolding before you is one of the country’s heart-stopping vistas. Unlike other ranges, the Tetons soar from the meadows, their jagged sil- houette refl ected in pristine lakes. No one was more taken with the Teton Range
