A newmulti-million pound contract between Norse Commercial Services and Norwich City Council, which will secure the jobs of a local workforce and strengthen the bonds of a public sector partnership, came into effect on 1March. The £4.8million per year


contract to deliver environ- mental services such as building cleaning, street cleaning, sheltered housing cleaning, groundsmainte- nance, arboriculture, and pest control will be provided by a new company called Norwich Norse (Environ- mental). “This joint venture ap-


proach between Norse and Norwich City Council is a partnership, with shared goals and agreed outcomes formutual benefit,” said managing director of Nor- wich Norse, Graham Jermyn. “It represents real benefit for the residents and taxpayers of Norwich and will give the long-termserv- ices delivery stability, and employment security, that can be a problemwith tradi- tional supplier and contrac- tor agreements. It’s a businessmodel that Norse

All CHSAmanufacturers to be assessed for the Manufacturing Standards Accreditation Schemes


From1 January 2014 allmembers of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers’ Association (CHSA) thatmanufacture soft tissue products, plastic refuse sacks or industrial cottonmopsmust be approvedmembers of the relevantManufacturing Standards Accreditation Scheme. “We understand that for customers it can be unclear as to whether or not amanufacturer in


the CHSA is amember of the relevantManufacturing Standards Accreditation Scheme and we are acting to remove this uncertainty,” said Stephen Harrison, chair of the CHSA andmanag- ing director of HarrisonWipes. “The accreditation schemes were introduced to raise standards in the industry and we are extremely proud of all they have achieved; by buying fromamember of one of the schemes you can be certain you are getting a product that is fit for purpose.” During 2013 everymanufacturingmember of the CHSA not currently amember of the rele-


vant scheme is to go through the accreditation process. The schemes’ auditor is visiting the manufacturing sites, testing the products and assessing themanufacturing processes. If the company passes the assessment process it will be admitted to the relevant scheme and if it ultimately fails it will no longer be accepted as amember of the CHSA.
