Dyfed-Powys Police selects Civica to provide hosted ANPR D

yfed-Powys Police has signed a fi ve-year contract with Civica. The new agree-

ment, which builds upon an existing relation- ship between the two organisations, will see Dyfed-Powys implement Civica’s new hosted re-deployable ANPR solution to cut crime, costs and improve internal ICT security. The force will go from a mixture of 34 tra-

ditional static cameras to 50 traditional and hosted ANPR sites, along with additional in- car cameras. Civica’s hosted re-deployable ANPR solution enables rapid deployment of cameras to support strategic operations or if a critical fi xed camera location is out of ser- vice due to either communications or equip- ment failure. The technology will be used to provide permanent ANPR coverage on routes of particular interest where hardwired communications infrastructure is unavailable or would be costly to provide. By hosting the solution at Civica data centres, the force ben-

efi ts from low risk and a highly resilient ICT infrastructure incorporating secure private network between the deployed cameras and Dyfed-Powys’ ANPR back-offi ce facility. Data is provided to NAAS standard, tapping into all of the major 3G networks to ensure the fastest possible speeds and constant wireless coverage. Brian Mumby, ANPR Manager, Dyfed-Pow-

ys Police explains: “Here in Wales, wireless cov- erage can be inconsistent at the best of times; Civica gives us access to all of the major 3G networks so we’re secure in the knowledge that our ANPR cameras are live-streaming vital data back to Headquarters 24/7. This technology is our bread and butter, particu- larly at a time when budgets and headcounts are under scrutiny. It allows us to have eyes and ears everywhere, which means we cap- ture more information and therefore resolve investigations much faster.”
