Regional focus North New Council reps for the region


(Burleydam Garden Centre) is council rep for the North West after Iain Wylie stepped down to pursue a new role with the Garden Centre Association. Philip Gass, from Donaghadee and


Bushmills Garden Centres, is replacing Doug Thomson of Irish Garden Plants as council rep for Northern Ireland. We’d like to thank both Iain and Doug


for their time and dedication. Both new council representatives


Adrian Cornelissen


We are delighted to announce the appointment of two voluntary council representatives for the Northern Region. Adrian Cornelissen of EH Williams


will work closely with Regional account manager Andrew Dunkley to maintain good communication between the membership and HTA head office in Theale, as well as helping to promote and maximise the many benefits of HTA membership.


In January, 10 spirited garden centre staff from northeast Scotland braved the snow and icy roads to enjoy an entertaining and informative day at Kirktown Garden Centre. Held in the magnificent new restaurant conservatory, the Plant Growth course, which was organised by the HTA and led by Kevin Waters, attracted attendees from the host centre, Ben Reid GC in Aberdeen, Ashbrook in Arbroath, and Happy Plants from a good 50 miles north in Peterhead. The day covered the growth and care of plants from the sales

Plant Growth Course a success New regional focus for RAMs


Following the recent appointment of Tim Bell to the role of HTA Commercial manager (see page 5) we have reviewed the areas covered by our Regional


account managers. l Andrew Dunkley is now responsible for the North, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, the north of England, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire


and Lincolnshire. l Andrew Whelan takes over the South West and Midlands, including East and West Midlands.


HTA Regional account managers provide the main point of contact for members, spending 80% of their time visiting member businesses to find out their needs and inform them about the many products and services available to them as a benefit of their membership.


l Phil Tremayne covers the South East, including Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. Your Regional account manager will


be working closely with your Council representative to ensure the HTA understands your needs and delivers the services that will support your business. Your feedback helps to guide our activities and members are encouraged to provide their comments to ensure the HTA continues to deliver the services that members need on a regional basis.

point to the customer’s home and included the characteristics of various growing media, plant nutrition and plant feeding. Following a delicious lunch provided by Kirktown GC the session moved on to problem solving and avoidance with sessions on pest, disease and weed controls available to the retail consumer. Essential topics such as legislation and codes of practice were also covered. The day was brought to a close with a review of irrigation


needs and applications. Attendees left for home with newfound levels of enthusiasm and confidence.
