Waterwall beats the 2012 floods

This estate in Oxford has historially suffered from repeat flooding, the most recent in 2007 which caused £250,000 worth of damage to a number of homes.
Oxford City Council decided that they needed to look at a property level flood protection system but to protect each invidual property would have been too costly
so the other option was to look to protect entire sections of the estate with a single barrier.
It couldn’t be a permanent barrier as access still had to be maintained but it would need to be a system that could be deployed at a moments notice. It also needed to be easily removed and stored away when not in use.
Waterwall from Caro Flood Defence Systems was chosen and installed in 2009.

2012 Flood events
As a result of the recent widespread flood events, many parts of Oxfordshire suffered from major disruption and flood damge. The Thames and tributaries were overwhelmed with the volume of water and with many burst banks and surafce water flooding, widespread havoc ensued.
The estate was hit by a deluge of flood waters on several occasions, giving Waterwall a series of real tests.
A series of tests which the system passed with flying colours!
The temporary walls, quickly installed following flood warnings, meant that residents did not have to evacuate, as they had in the past, and properties were protected from water damage.
Evacuation, repairs and clean-ups would have been time consuming and expensive for the local authority, and importantly for the residents there was none of the suffering and trauma associated with evacuation and flood damaged possessions.
