Collaborative furniture The future of learning space
M
odern classrooms have moved on a long way from Dickensian style education space: rows of front-facing desks, uncomfortable furniture and individual learning are becoming things of the past. In the 21st century, the new norm for education is a student-centred approach based on idea sharing, communication and collaboration.
In meeting the demand for collaborative workspace, there is a large requirement for classroom furniture that promotes teamwork and group learning. Such furniture was unveiled by TOP-TEC at this years Bett show, providing a popular solution to creating contemporary interactive learning space.
Particularly noteworthy was the release of the innovative Alpha Desk, a range of flexible tables that can be arranged into various formations. The Alpha Desk’s unique design and light frame allows rooms to be reconfigured at ease, enabling new shapes, collaborative styles and working environments to be created within a single workspace.
Forming part of their collaborative workspace collection, TOP-TEC is also well known for the Synergy range of desks, which integrates with IT and AV equipment to facilitate team-based interaction. Incorporating plasma and computer security, internal cable management and input points for external devices, Synergy provides a workspace that supports conferencing as well as group discussion, with the screen functioning as a primary or secondary aid. A UK manufacturer, TOP-TEC is a leading supplier of education furniture and versatile ICT suites, providing a complete service from free room planning through to finished installations.
