wisslog’s AutoStore system will provide Ocado’s new Non Food DC in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, with automated storage, handling and picking of non-food items. Ocado has grown in to one of Britain’s leading online retailers since it was estab- lished in 2000, and this success has led to increased business for non-food items and household goods, creating the desire to maximise the efficiencies of storage and picking operations. Ocado needed a practical and efficient automated solution that would complement its existing systems and optimise usage of available space. AutoStore is installed at a new site close to the existing 23 acre Hatfield site and will be integrated with Ocado’s existing fulfilment operation. Swisslog’s AutoStore solution will comprise of 31 robots, four ergonomic pick stations and two decant stations which will provide a warehouse solution with better space optimisation, high throughput and will allow all pickers access to every SKU at each pick station.

nce Linde had made the deci- sion to relocate to new premises from its existing satellite site in Basingstoke, it was a natural choice to call on SSI Schaefer’s expertise to design and install a new parts store, as the two companies have a close working rela- tionship spanning decades. Linde wasted no time in taking full advantage of SSI Schaefer’s product portfolio and industry capabilities in order to achieve a working space that

would operate efficiently, making the most of the available footprint, whilst adhering to critical advice regarding loading and building regulations to the overall project.

Flexibility

The product range and flexibility pro- vided by SSI Schaefer meant that both wide and very narrow aisle (VNA) pallet racking were installed in addi- tion to high bay shelving served by Linde’s K Range narrow aisle combi

Mike Settle, logistics manager, Linde, said, “SSI Schaefer’s wide and narrow aisle pallet racking allowed us to use our own range of trucks resulting in the perfect combination. The professional- ism and knowledge base that SSI Schaefer has when it comes to provid- ing proficient and dynamic warehouse storage systems enabled us to relocate with ease and stick to budget without compromising on efficiency.” The pallet racking installation pro- vides Linde with a solid base for long term business growth, providing a stable, robust, versatile, expandable, safe and long lasting system. The VNA system, designed to meet a new gener- ation of warehouses up to 15m high with aisles marginally wider than the load, has improved Linde’s stock rota- tion and improved picking rates - the increased operational height has enabled Linde to utilise the floor area more efficiently, increasing the overall stores capacity.

Linde can offer bespoke handling solutions for every type of industrial and commercial application. These include engine and electric powered counterbalance trucks, a complete range of warehouse trucks, very narrow aisle systems, electric tow tractors, sideloaders and container handlers.
