News Industry Comment Coming soon - save the date for Pro2Pac

It’s hard to believe we are already over a month into the new year and despite more worrying news for the economy, 2013 looks set to be busier than ever for the automation industry. As usual the year’s trade show season kicks-off with Southern Manufacturing & Electronics which continues to grow every year. That’s followed by the triennial International Materials Handling Exhibition (IMHX) which is also much larger than it was three years ago - see our preview on p12. These growing events have to be good news for industry as a whole, so let’s hope it translates into better economic news as we go through the year. This is my last editorial comment as editor of Automation before I move on to pastures new and hand the magazine over to my colleague, Joe Bush. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my tenure as editor for the last five years, during which time we’ve certainly witnessed a growth in the take-up of automation in the UK and I’d like to wish Joe the best of luck in his new position. Award recognises efforts within the water industry

GLOBAL RESEARCH ORGANISATION Frost & Sullivan has presented a Customer Value Enhancement Award to motor manufacturer WEG, following its Best Practices Research programme. The 2012 European Electric Motors for Water and Waste Water Customer Value Enhancement Award is

a third party recognition of WEG’s accomplishments in supplying electric motors to the water industry. Key to WEG’s win was the launch of its new range of IE2/IE3 high efficiency electric motors, which comply with the UK WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electric Specifications) Requirements.

In presenting the award, Frost & Sullivan noted that WEG is one of the prominent participants in the water and waste water industry in Europe.

Russel Maccabe (pictured left), who collected the award on behalf of WEG, commented, “WEG were delighted to receive this prestigious award from Frost & Sullivan in recognition of the efforts the company has made in developing energy efficient solutions for the water industry and broader market place. “Through building strong relationships with our partners, listening to their needs and the needs of their customers, we have been able to bring new products to market which meet and far exceed the needs of legislation.” www.weg.net/uk
