DSM extends halogen-free PA options

DSM has launched two new flame retardant compounds for the electronics market – Stanyl SC50 and MC50 – which are claimed to provide the performance expected from its standard high temperature Stanyl grades in a halogen-free formulation. The new grades are said to

provide higher flow, better thin wall strength and improved end use part Glow Wire Ignition Temperature results compared to conven- tional halogen-free HTPA materials. The company says the

new grades also minimize corrosion of the moulding machine, which it says can be a problem with current flame retardant polyamides. The Stanyl SC50 product

offers users a UL94 V-0 rating and the Stanyl MC50 grade a UL94 V-2 rating. ❙

Shore A to 50 Shore D, the materials are available in black or natural versions. Intended for more demanding automotive under-the-hood applications, the Viprene P series are also available in natural or black versions and provide enhanced resistance to elevated temperatures, oils and abrasion. Grades cover the hardness range from 45 Shore A to 50 Shore D. ❙

Albis says the Altech NXT

PP grade provides an HDT A-value of 154˚C and shows no significant change in mechanical properties after 1,000h at 150˚C. ❙
