US specialist compounder RTP Company is using carbon fi bres reclaimed from Boeing commercial aircraft manufactur- ing scrap to produce compounds that are being injection moulded into high perfor- mance kayak paddle blades. The premium


aircraft-grade carbon fi bre is able to meet perfor- mance requirements at a lower fi bre loading, which helps the moulder to satisfy demanding aesthetic requirements. The cost difference between the recycled-content carbon fi bre compound and the alternative virgin carbon fi bre is said to be insignifi cant. Germany-based CarboNXT is also dedicated to


producing recycled carbon fi bres. The company was founded in 2010 by Karl Meyer Group, an environmental and disposal service provider, which also runs the CFK Valley Stade Recycling company that provides the recycled carbon fi bres to CarboNXT for chopping or milling.
