NETHERLANDS New Benelux offices for Riedel By Erica Basnicki
RIEDEL COMMUNICATIONS has expanded its business in Europe, opening an office in Hilversum, Netherlands (just outside Amsterdam). The new facility will cover all sales, rental and service operations in the Benelux region.
The announcement follows
the recent news that Riedel has been awarded a Sports Emmy Award in the category of “Outstanding New Approaches
The new Riedel facility is based in Hilversum outside Amsterdam
Sports Event Coverage” for the production of the Red Bull Stratos project, which saw Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner jump from a stratospheric capsule 39,045m above Earth, breaking the sound barrier during his subsequent freefall. “Over the past few years, we have observed significant growth
in the Benelux broadcast and event market,” said Wilbert Kooij, general manager of Riedel Benelux. “Therefore, the next logical step was to expand with a dedicated office here in the Netherlands. The office gives us the opportunity to offer very direct rental and sales support, along with even more thorough customer service.” Kooij has been responsible
for Riedel’s operations in the Dutch market for more than two years. The Benelux team also includes David Bouma, who will be responsible for the entertainment and event markets, as well as Christiaan Haasdijk as rental operations manager. Recent projects in that area involve Dutch broadcast provider Dutchview and Hilversum-based video service provider Parkpost. n

One of RAI’s new Vista 9 consoles at the La Scala Theatre in Milan
ITALY RAI sights set on Vista By Erica Basnicki
ITALIAN STATE broadcaster RAI has taken delivery of its first four Studer Vista 9 digital mixing consoles from Italian distributor Leading Technologies (LT). This is the latest in a long list of Studer desks supplied by LT to the broadcaster, which includes two Vista 7s, four Vista 5s and two Vista 8s. The first of the Vista 9s, a 64-mic input desk, has been installed in the RAI control room at the La Scala Theatre in Milan (Teatro alla Scala), replacing the previous Vista 8, and will be used for live broadcasting for radio and TV,
as well as recording of operas and classical concerts. A further 88-mic input Vista 9 has been installed in the RAI auditorium, which will be used for live broadcasting or the recording of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra. At its Rome broadcast facilities, RAI has similarly upgraded its former digital desk to a 48-mic input Vista 9 in the radio production centre of a general-purpose studio, which is predominantly used for live music, talk shows and drama. This summer, another studio, identical to the first one, will be upgraded with the second Vista 9 assigned to Rome. n
