studionews ITALY API heads to Milan By Erica Basnicki
INDIEHUB IS a new co-working space in Milan focused solely on music production. It is the brainchild of audio engineer Andrea Dolcino, who was introduced to a similar idea in a different type of facility. “Before starting Indiehub
I’d been working for 10 years as an audio engineer, specialising in post-production for advertising jingles. Three years ago, a customer took me to a co-working facility for a job,” said Dolcino. “So I decided to start the first co-working facility dedicated to music production.”
In addition to desk space that can be rented out, the facility includes a recording studio, with a 200sqm live room designed by Milan-based acoustician Dario Paini. After testing several consoles, Dolcino opted for a 16-channel API 1608 analogue console for the studio control room – the first to be installed in Milan. “I was looking for a brand new
console, not a used one, and for the budget that I had the API had the most character,” said Dolcino. “The sound was the most transparent, and when you hear music made on an API in your car or on home equipment, I’m sure I can hear something ‘more’
than on other consoles that I’ve tried in that price range.” “We are excited to spread our wings in Italy,” added Mark Seman, API sales. “This is a great endeavour for both API and Indiehub.” Throughout the spring, Indiehub has been previewing its new facility by hosting a series of private invitation-only in-house concerts in the studio’s live room.n

‘Mic to Monitor’ marches on By Erica Basnicki
PRISM SOUND’S Mic to Monitor UK roadshow (presented in conjunction with DPA, SADiE and PMC) is enjoying ongoing success, with the bulk of the workshops having taken place last month. Attendance has consistently hit the 40+ mark as audio enthusiasts enjoyed talks from veteran mastering engineer Aidan Foley (Masterlabs), DJ/producer Simon Little, Edward J ‘UK’ Nixon and Mandy Parnell (The XX). The roadshow will take a
break over the summer, recommencing again in September with events in Manchester (Futureworks) and London (Alchemea College), followed by October dates in Birmingham (Birmingham City
University) and Liverpool (Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts). Chris Allen, sales executive and support engineer at Prism Sound, commented: “This year’s Mic to Monitor events have been bigger and better than ever. “There is real enthusiasm
from the attendees who are getting a chance to spend an evening dedicated to all things audio, from technical design and issues, as well as talk directly to the professional engineers about their work and gain valuable insight into the industry from a business and creative perspective. “It’s a pleasure and privilege
to work with such great companies, talented engineers and producers who make Mic to Monitor possible. We’re looking forward to the future events!”n
