How I got started: I fi rst put on skates a year and a half ago in a teen learn-to-skate program. My mom kind of had to twist my arm — most kids who start skating are a lot younger than I was, but she thought I would have fun with it. She was right! Since then I’ve tried to skate as much as possible. My coaches are amazing and I’ve learned so much from them.
Goals: I’d like to pass my senior moves-in-the-fi eld test next year and get all my double jumps. I want to go to the next Bay State Games and qualify for the State Games of America in 2013. I want to pass my senior freestyle test before graduating high school and I want to go to a college that has a good skating program as well.
What else you should know about me: I love helping teach the younger kids in the learn-to-skate program at my club. I’ve been doing it for this last year and it’s incredibly rewarding. I’m also crazy for animals, and have done pet-sitting for dogs, cats, birds, lizards, snakes, horses, sheep, chickens and alpacas. My last two birthday parties were benefi ts for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Memorable moments: Fred Palascak and Melanie Lambert were judges at my fi rst competition. They were guests at a workshop I went to, and I not only got to meet them, I got to skate with them as well. Last year, I skated in a charity exhibition to benefi t breast cancer research with Encore, The Skating Club of Boston’s Theatre On Ice novice team. I was also able to travel with the team to San Diego to attend the State Games of America, and win a silver medal. Since then, I’ve passed four ice dance tests and I’ve been working hard on my freestyle, landing my Axel, double Salchow and double toe.
