PROJECT FOCUS RELIGIOUS

Fort Hood Chapel Complex and Religious Education Facility, Fort Hood, Texas Upon completion, the 42,000-square-foot facility will be the largest of its kind in the United States Army. The $27 million, design-build campus is a two-phase project with the overall goal of creating a space that will enhance the spiritual fi tness of soldiers and their families. The project needed to meet a number of

requirements. “The Corps of Engineers has rigid, standardized requirements for roofi ng systems which included seaming, fl ashing details, salt spray testing, wind lift, etc.,” explains Stephen Cer- vantes, project manager with design-builder, Solis Constructors Inc. Lightning protection was another issue, and Cervantes says Petersen Aluminum Corp. has standard details in place that helped meet the lightning protection requirements. Petersen worked with Solis Constructors to

meet the project’s stringent requirements. The project features approximately 45,000 square feet of Petersen’s 16-inch, 24-gauge Snap Clad striated panels in PAC-CLAD Cityscape Cool Color. One challenge posed was long panel runs

in the building design. Nearly 20,000 square feet of panels reaching up to 80 feet in length were rollformed on-site, and installed by A.D. Willis Co. Roofi ng & Sheet Metal.

Not only did the panels and structure meet the

Army Corps of Engineers’ requirements, but the facility also achieved LEED Gold certifi cation.
