NRCA releases fall-protection


compliance program The National Roofi ng Contractors Association (NRCA) has released its fall protection compli- ance program, Serving up Safety: A Recipe for Avoiding Falls on the Job, a video program addressing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) fall-protection re- quirements for roofi ng work, including require- ments for state-plan states. The comprehensive training program includes


a DVD with six hours of video content explaining fall protection rules pertaining to each of the 50 states, as well as a companion instructors guide, student guide and student handout, regulatory excerpts from state and federal agencies, a fi nal examination tailored to specifi c states, and a customizable certifi - cate of completion. The program is available in English and Spanish


and discusses terms and defi nitions, low- and steep- slope roofi ng, and self-rescue and assisted rescue from falls. Additional resources include federal OSHA regulations, as well as regulations from states enforc- ing their own rules that differ from federal OSHA and interpretations from each jurisdiction. AAMA publishes quality assurance guidelines for


polyamide thermal barriers The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) has published QAG-2- 12, "Voluntary Quality Assurance Processing Guide for Polyamide Thermal Barriers." The document, developed to assist architects, manu- facturers, designers and/or owners, establishes assembly guidelines for aluminum composites utilizing polyamide thermal barriers. Developed by AAMA's Thermal Barrier Task

Steel Stud Manufacturer's Association announces new


additions to board of directors Robert Clark, chairman of Quail Run Building Materials Inc., Phoenix, is the association's new chairman. He succeeds William A. Gardner, president and CEO of Marino\WARE, South Plain- fi eld, N.J., who will remain on the board of direc- tors as immediate past chairman. Martin Kiehm, president of Custom Stud, Lakeville, Minn., was named vice chairman, and Lawrence Stone, presi- dent of SCAFCO, Spokane, Wash., was named secretary/treasurer.


Decorated Astronaut Mark Kelly to provide keynote address at the


fl ew combat missions during the Gulf War and has been decorated with the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was selected as an astronaut in 1996. He fl ew the fi rst of his four missions in 2001 aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour, the same shuttle he com- manded on its fi nal fl ight in May 2011. He also led the mission team aboard the shuttle Discov- ery and is only one of two individuals who have visited the International Space Station on four different occasions.
