Other great looking schemes for BD jets include this red, white and blue patriotic version (above left) from the United States as well as this bright yellow

and red BD-5 (above right) from Switzerland. The prototype BD-10 (below, at left) soaring above the clouds. In Greg’s mind it just begs to be modeled again.

over the plug. I’ve made parts this way, but not an entire fuselage … so we shall see. One fan manufacturer I’d love to try is Schubeler. His line of fans are phenomenal- ly successful and powerful—though priced on the higher end. The lineup begins with the DS-26, which is 65mm in diameter and grows to the DS-94 at 128mm. This shot from Jet Power in Germany gives an idea of the product range, and how nice his carbon fiber fabrication is!

If you’ve ever wondered what the inside of a turbine engine looks like, there are two neat posts on the web. The first is a cut away view of a “typical” turbine and is found at http://tinyurl.com/ahooyu9. There are also some interesting links to older (1993!) arti- cles concerning the early frustrations of miniature turbines.

The second link can be found at http://tinyurl.com/ag77rwg. This is a thread that was started by Alan Wheeler http:// modeljetengines.blogspot.co.uk, who did the CAD work to show the possibilities of 3D CAD design, and all I can say is wow! The en- gine modeled is an early Wren MW54. The threads cross reference each other, but do contain some different information and are definitely worthy of a look-see!

Well, I’m out of space, so until next time: keep busy with your building projects, fly safe, and trust in thrust!

No, this is not a sport-scale color scheme on a scale airplane. The first of three F-20s (above left) sported this colorful (and visible) paint job for the first part of its life. From left to right (above right) Daniel Schubeler’s fan units range in size

from the 65mm DS-26 to the very large DS-94 at 128mm in diameter. Known for their power and quality, this is a brand of fan where you do get what you paid for.
