The gear housings were simple sheet sides (above left) with flat tops and bottoms. KISS works well and looks just as good in the air. The nacelles were the hardest part. The balsa rings (above right) go over the fan and hold the ply tube circular. The ply mounts were drawn based on the front view and some


“TLAR engineering.” More parts for the nacelles (below left) will make the assembled units stronger and provide mounting for the fans. The front/rear rings (below right) are friction fit after covering. Note that the left/right sides will now plug through the fuse for mounting.


Both the horizontal and vertical stabilizers are built to be light and simple, but strong enough to resist covering twist. The horizontal stabilizer (above left)


FLYING MODELS


features a traditional built-up construction, while the two vertical stabilizers, made from sheet balsa (above right) had lightening holes carefully cut into them.
