i Fliers, it is with great sadness that I report the loss
of Ric
Vaughn this past September. Fly- ing and competing with Ric for nearly 20 years he was always the greatest of human beings. Ric was a great story teller and kept his fellow fliers riveted with stories of his full time job as an airline pilot. We will miss you Ric.
E-Jets International took place at Darby Dan Airport in Galloway, Ohio, September 6–9th. CD was Terry Nitsch. With the un- fortunate loss of the TORKS (The Ohio Ra- dio Kontrol Society) home field the event was held at a full scale airport which gave a safe and spacious runway for any and all EDF models. The TORKS members running the event were always eager to assist in any way needed for the flier’s safety. I attended on Friday morning to find calm but foggy conditions. As the fog slowly lifted it was a perfect time to enjoy some smaller EDFs in the calm conditions. Horizon Hobby’s
www.horizonhobby.com small UMX MiG-15s were filling the air and displayed excellent performance from take- off to landing. Fliers like myself with models requiring a bungee launch were assisted by TORKS members to coordinate a safe launch and return to the pilots’ station for the flight.
Jim Martin’s F-14 with variable geome- try was hard to tell from the real thing. Jim’s piloting skills had the crowd silently watching this giant aircraft go through its paces. The 1⁄7 scale Fly Eagle F-14 kit was designed to be turbine powered but was converted to e-power with Tam Jet TJ110mm stock fans. Power came from two 14S 10,000 mAh. Li-Pos. USA RC Jets

Ric Vaughn was always a great person to be around. It didn’t matter if it was competition, a field repair or sharing stories, you would always have a good time with him. Ric will be greatly missed.
from high-grade alloy, immensely strong and light, gold annodized. Rpm has been tested beyond 100,000 rpm. Dynamically balanced, the 12-bladed fan design is super quiet and efficient. The fan has built-in safe- ty; the rotor cannot escape the shroud, even if your motor shaft breaks. Easy Tiger dis- played many large composite jet scale sub- jects at low cost and worth a closer look when moving up from foam jets. This event featured plenty of high speed jet thrills from micro to massive with daily speed trials and scale competition. If you are even thinking about an EDF project E-Jets International is the place for you to have a great time flying or observing.

tang has no problem with takeoffs and land- ings and is capable of scale acrobatics while looking good in the sky.
Travels The 2012 NEAT Fair was held September 14–16 at Peaceful Valley Campgrounds in Downsville, NY. CD was Tom Hunt, assisted by SEFLI and the club members. I arrived Thursday afternoon to near perfect warm conditions which continued right through Fri- day with only a shower during one night. This was the driest NEAT I can remember. Regis- tered pilots topped 400 which would be easy to tell looking down the endless flight line. As usual a first class event was run with a few extras this year. There was a swap shop building loaded with models and the smell of fresh cooked on-site pizza—whole or by the slice—by Peter Serafini of Pete’s Piz- za. Saturday afternoon flying stopped while a full scale acrobatic display was performed over the flying site. At the campground of- fice sat a brand new full scale Carbon Cub

Jim Martin’s swing wing F-14 (at left) had everyone’s attention as he masterfully put the large model through its paces and a smooth landing powered from two 14S Li-Po packs.
