St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., welcomed Norwegian marine explorer Thorleif Thorleifsson Oct. 11 to discuss modern exploration and the effects of climate change. In 2010, Thorleifsson and Børge Ous- land became the first to sail around the North Pole in a single short sea- son, covering 10,000 nautical miles in a record-breaking 80 days.

Students have reduced thermal, electrical and biological waste to raise the fish with a minimal impact on the environ- ment. The interdisciplinary effort has included engineering majors’ designs for a large-scale facility and market- ing plans from business students.


Roanoke College, Salem, Va., estab- lished The Center for Teaching the Rule of Law with the goal of educat-


ing youth, teachers and others about the importance of the rule of law for justice, equality, fairness and stabil- ity in the world. With “less empha- sis on teaching history, social stud- ies and civics than ever before,” the center will “address this critical gap in knowledge,” said G. Michael Pace Jr., the center’s founder and CEO. Michael Maxey, president of Roanoke, said the center’s flagship program will bring together lawyers and judges “to teach the rule of law in elementary, middle and high schools from a national and international perspective.”
