ccording to SPORTS MARKETING SURVEYS INC., 87% of shoes worn by players on the European Tour are made by Europe’s leading three footwear brands.
Clearly, the market is taking notice; those three brands account for more than two thirds of the golf shoe market. Other research conducted by SMS INC. among regular golfers shows that across
Europe, the single most influential factor in footwear purchasing decisions was ‘Comfort”. It was ranked higher than such factors as ‘Quality’ and ‘Fit’. Fortunately, the shoe market seems buoyant. The group’s research into the UK market shows that of regular players, more than two thirds had bought a pair of golf shoes in the last year. On-course pro shops remain the most popular purchase location for golf shoes, and 42% of regular golfers report having their spikes changed in the shop.
