Students of the Year
Matis Paris recently celebrated its annual Student of the Year Competition, announcing Victoria Clarke of Waterford Institute of Further Education, Katie Curran of Galway Technical Institute, and Donna Rutherford of Senior College Dun Laoghaire as their winners.
The judging of the competition commenced during the latter part of 2011, and saw six finalists battle it out for one of the three awards. Finalists were judged in areas such as technique, appearance and technical knowledge.
The winners and tutors travelled to Paris where they were presented with their awards byMichelMonier ofMatis Paris and Catherine Harrington of Star Products International, whilst also enjoying a visit to theMatis laboratory and factory.
Teacher trainee internships introduced
Beauty Academy Drogheda has developed an internship for recently qualified teachers.
“We work carefully with our Teacher Trainees in helping themto develop their confidence, skills and knowledge in a classroomsetting,” explains Linda Ennis, Principal and owner of Beauty Academy, who herself holds a BA Honours Degree in Training & Education fromNUI Galway.
The eight day internships are open only to teaching graduates, who will assist an experienced tutor in the classroomwith the aimof ensuring the newly qualified teacher has the experience and confidence to securemore work in a teaching capacity.

Teacher training dates
TheWaverley Academy is now enrolling for their teaching diploma at their Dublin and Cork venues.
Programmes start in October and are run part time, one day permonth over six to eightmonths. Their ITEC teaching diploma is recognised internationally and places are limited so booking early is advisable.
