The right skin care routine is crucial but does it really matter whether you mix and match the products in your clients’ regime? Donna Taylor investigates.


We mix and match, or ‘cherry-pick’, most things in the world of beauty.


We might use one brand’s foundation with another brand’s eyeshadow or blusher, or one shampoo with another conditioner. Most women will have probably done it at some stage with their skin care regime too.


Most skin care companies offer a whole host of products designed to offer a complete regime for all skin

types, but every therapist will want to make sure that they offer the perfect regime for their client’s skin type, so does this mean that therapists can happily cherry-pick from their favourite skin care brands to create just the right regime for their client?


Skin care specialist Abigail James believes that products in the same brand have been designed to work together perfectly, however mixing and matching can sometimes create something that little bit better.


“Obviously products from the same range are formulated to work in conjunction with each other and should be able to provide a well- balanced skin care regime from the client. But, all skins are unique and some may respond just as well, if not better, from combining products from more than one brand.”


Sharon Cass, Education Manager at Cosmeceuticals, agrees: “It obviously depends on the brands and products being mixed, but in the clinical skin
