ship from the Chickasaws, she now plans to use as she serves her electric cooperative. On June 28, 2012, she was appointed as a member of the PEC board of directors. After interviewing several candidates, the board selected Trett to fi ll a position that was vacated when one of the previous board members moved away.

“In talking to the co-op, the position seemed very similar to the tribe, as far as the need for servant leadership,” Trett said. “You have to have people willing to serve for the good of the organization. It’s something I try to do at work that carries over into the rest of my life—serving out of the interest of the people and not out of my own interest.” Unlike her workplace where it’s common for women to be in leadership (more than half of the members of the governor’s leadership team are fe- male), Trett is only the second woman ever to serve on PEC’s board of directors. “Jenny’s qualifi cations—her skills, talents, knowl- edge and experience—stand on their own,” Monica Neal, vice president of Corporate Services for PEC, said. “However, we’re thrilled with the diversity she brings—the diversity of having a woman and a Chickasaw citizen on the board.”

Trett is a long-time member of the electric co-op. In fact, excluding the year she spent in Tulsa, Trett has always resided in PEC territory. Today she lives a mile and a half from her childhood home with her husband and two sons.

“We’ve always had horses and cows so we didn’t want to live in town,” Trett said. “We’re happier in

the country.”

Even in her limited leisure time, Trett’s servant heart shines through. In addition to serving the Chickasaw Nation and PEC, Trett attends Sulphur First Freewill Baptist Church where she teaches a Wednesday-evening class and helps with children’s

To them, serving is a way of life. OL
