LIVEWIRE SEPTEMBER 2012 | VOLUME 63 ISS U E 9 | PU B L IS H ED FOR MEMBERS OF TRI-COUN T Y E L E C TRIC COOPERATIVE Your vote matters at annual meeting

meetings held the week of July 30. At the cooperative’s annual meeting on Sept. 20, members will vote whether to approve Bylaw changes proposed by the cooperative’s Board of Trustees. Before the proposed Bylaw changes can be voted on, a quorum of the membership must register at the annual meeting. The

cooperative’s Bylaws define a quorum as 5 percent of the membership, which is more than 600 people. While 5 percent may not seem like many people, it can be a challenge to draw that size of a crowd. That’s why it’s important for every member of the cooperative to attend this year’s annual meeting. Members in attendance can look forward to more than the privilege of voting. They will receive a free barbecue meal served by Hunny’s, a free gift and the chance to win many door prizes. The grand prize for one lucky member in attendance is $500. Details on the meeting are below. Tri-County Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 Registration and meal begin at 5:30 p.m., Business Meeting begins at 6 p.m. Texas County Activity Center, 5th & Sunset, Guymon, Okla.

Members were mailed an invitation with a registration card and details on the proposed Bylaw changes on Aug. 28. While

members are encouraged to bring the registration card with them to speed the registration process, it is not required. Upon registration, members will receive their gift and a prize number for the drawings. Then they will enter the line for the free meal. Once the business meeting begins, it usually doesn’t last more than an hour. Overall, it’s a speedy process with an important outcome for the cooperative.

ooperatives are owned by their members. We thrive on the Second Cooperative Principle, “Democratic Member Control.” Tri-County Electric Cooperative is no different from any other cooperative in that it invites its members to district and annual meetings to discuss business and vote on important matters.
