Retro Sport
Fuselage is ready for soft 1
Tom loves the graceful lines of the fuselage. Attach the 1 -inch top and bottom sheet (above right) in cross-grain fashion. This will add torsional strength to the
⁄32-inch balsa top and bottom sheeting (above left). ⁄32
fuselage. The built-up horizontal and the vertical sheet stabilizer (below left) offer a lightweight yet robust combination suitable for such a sport model. Completed wing (below right), with its elliptical wing tips, is simple to build.
The stab and vertical fin (above left) are completely finished and covered before attaching to the fuselage. The 1
⁄16 -inch sheet fin fits into a full-depth slot in
the stab. Tom covered the Retro Sport(above right) with real Japanese tissue 52
from the mid-fifties era. This was available back then in most hobby shops. It’s rather faded now, but it still looks good and adds a nostalgic feel. 11 diameter balsa wheels came from Tom’s scrounge box.
