First stage of fuselage assembly (above left). The fuselage is built directly over the top view of the plan. Insure both sides are vertical and laterally aligned at front and rear before gluing the formers in place. Tom used gap-filling CyA

ly radiused cowl. My sheeting was no more than 1⁄32 inch thick when I was done. Next, I added a 1⁄16 × 1-inch wide balsa

sheet to the top of the rear peg location. The balsa grain should run cross-wise and flush with the tops of the fuselage sides. To enable access to the rubber at the rear peg, I did not fill in the bottom with cross-grain 1⁄16-inch sheet. Drill out the rear peg holes with a ¼- inch drill bit. I glued 1⁄32-inch soft balsa sheet cross-grain to the top and bottom of the fuse- lage. This completes the fuselage assembly.

glue. No side thrust is required. The last three formers (above right) are added after the fuselage is assembled. Check the sides to ensure they are square and aligned at both ends.

I covered my fuselage with vintage Japan-

ese tissue. I have managed to keep this tis- sue in a cool dark place since 1953. Given the classic vintage outlines of this design, I thought it fitting to use some of that ancient tissue. I used an Office Depot purple glue stick to attach the blue tissue. Others may prefer the more traditional dope. I like the glue sticks. They are readily available, are inexpensive, and unlike dope they don’t stink up my shop. I sprayed the fuselage with a couple of coats of Krylon matte spray.

After adding a 3⁄32-inch square balsa strip between the front wing support and cowl, I made a paper windshield pattern, and then transferred it to .003-inch acetate. I used dabs of Office Depot liquid Glue Pen to at- tach the windshield to the fuselage. Fin, stab and wing: I really like the swoopy upper and lower vertical fin out- lines. I cut them from medium 1⁄16-inch bal- sa sheet. You may need to butt-splice a cou- ple of sheets to include the full fin outline. I traced and cut the elliptical outlines of
