A first time While I've been a subscriber to your mag-
azine since the early ’80s, I've never really submitted a contribution, though I've want- ed to. So here is the first time... The model on the left is the Jimmy-D, plan
CD336 from 02/08 issue (originally 31-inch wing span per the plan), I built to the plans with a target weight of around 7 ounces. Since
chased for the Jimmy-D. During taxi testing it did get airborne briefly and seemed to have enough power and was very stable. So it is ready for the flying field! I’m just learning to fly R/C and I am hop-
ing these two models will get me through the steep part of the learning curve as my next project is going to be more scale like. Keep up the great work you guys and gals
are doing!

it was the first model I built using foam, it ended up way too heavy as I made a lot of mis- takes. The recommended motor was a GPS IPS size motor. It turned out to not have enough power given the extra weight, so I up- graded to a GWS 2205/15T brushless motor. During the initial flights it crashed bad-
ly. So badly it was not repairable. Fortu- nately, when I bought the blue foam for the fuselage I bought extra! What you see in the photo is a scaled up version to a 40-inch wing span. Instead of a foam wing I made a built-up
wing. The wing is covered with Coverite Mi- cro Lite. And I learned, from reading your magazine, that EconoKote is safe for cover- ing foam. So I covered the blue foam part of the fuselage with red EconoKote. I think it adds a significant amount of durabiltiy from damage to cover the foam with the plastic covering! Total weight is 10 ounces and I used the GWS 2205/15T motor. Initial flights have been very good. The model on the right I just finished. It
is the Yard Stik, plan CD432 from the 02/12 issue. It came out right at the target weight of 7 ounces. Flight testing to follow. I’m us- ing the IPS-DX-AXCS motor I initally pur-

bunch of years and have found next to noth- ing on it. It was a 25-size F-105 Thunder- chief propjet kit made by Hangar 1 and was in the Tower Hobbies catalogs in the mid- ’90s (I know it was in the ’95 catalog). Maybe you or your readership can help me out. CHRIS SUSICKE via e-mail
A really good person I read with interest Roy DeCamara’s arti-
cle about Ray Morgan and his Flying Ohm. I met Ray in the late 1970s as a co-work-
er for the City of Turlock, in central Califor- nia. Ray worked as an engineer within the Public Works Department and I worked next door in the Planning Department. I was going through the challenges of ear-
ly adulthood and Ray was like a family coun- selor. We soon discovered that we had a mu- tual interest in building and flying model airplanes. While my background was in freeflight and U-control, Ray would meet me at an old flying field in Patterson and would show me the basics of radio control. Ray would occasionally talk about his early R/C designs, including the Flying Ohm. I enjoyed Ray’s company enormously. It
came as quite a shock to arrive at City Hall one day to discover that Ray had passed away the previous day. I will never forget Ray’s genuine kindness
and love for people and model airplanes. KIRK LINDSEY

NEED SCALE DOCUMENTATION? I have the world’s largest aircraft documentation collection
Bob's Aircraft Documentation contains over 8,200 different color Foto Paaks (made up of almost 500,000 photos). Each Foto Paak is designed to give the modeler, restorer, or enthusiast photo documentation of the actual aircraft. Views from various angles, many with interior shots, help the modeler create or replace exact replicas of their favorite aircraft.
The 3-Views are high quality scale drawings many of which provide the enthusiast precise dimensions. There are over 39,000 pages of 3-View line drawings in Bob's collection.
