The C9 Harrison Jumping Hour:
Watch of the Year? Could the amazing C9 Harrison Jumping Hour be the 2012 Watch of the Year? As we go to press, eight judges from the influential 00/24 WatchWorld magazines awards are weighing that very question.
In the category for best watch up to €3,000, the C9 is being considered against competition from Bremont, Edox and Meistersinger. It is a great honour for Christopher Ward to be involved in the shortlist for this global battle as only 20 watches in total are nominated across all categories. On June 26 Chris Ward made a presentation on this innovative watch to the panel of eight international judges at BAFTA on London’s Piccadilly. He told them that the 200-piece limited edition was sold out within a couple of months. Christopher Ward is developing new designs using the movement, especially created for Christopher Ward by celebrated watchmaker Johannes Jahnke, for release in 2013. Netherlands-based 00/24 WatchWorld magazines have been selecting Watches of the Year since 2000 and the importance of these awards has been growing ever since. For the first time this year the competition has been organised on a European scale, with an international jury deciding which watches will be awarded. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London in September. Fingers crossed!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me
a Mercedes-Benz watch? The Mercedes-Benz Owners Club UK celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and Christopher Ward is joining in the celebrations. The company is very proud to be creating a bespoke C11 Automatic watch for the club members, which will sell for £425. Think of it as contemporary British design applauding legendary German design.
The links between the two bodies goes back to 2005 when Michael Chapman, marketing director of the club, was a very early and enthusiastic customer of Christopher Ward. He has bought several versions of the C5 Malvern, as well as the Battle of Britain and Brooklands limited editions. “We were the first Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Club in the world – we started even before the Germans had one. We now have about 10,000 members,” says Chapman. “For our anniversary we didn’t want an obvious watch, so we went for the C11, which is a very modern design, very different to the watches you’d see on the high street. Christopher Ward’s Richard Dalziel was very good at gathering all our ideas together, amending the design and preparing a presentation for our committee members. And we only really started working on it early in the new year.” For more on CW’s limited-edition watches, turn to pages 46-49.
A CERAMIC CORAL
Taking its design cues from the highly successful C60 Trident men’s design, the new W60 Coral watch for women introduces ceramic to the Christopher Ward range. The famous Chanel J12 watch made ceramic an important fashion statement in luxury watches. Christopher Ward has gone to great lengths to ensure the quality of its highly scratch-resistant ceramic stands comparison with the very finest in the market. The ceramic is used for the bezel and the bracelet. The first three versions will be: silver and white; black and silver at £499 and gold and silver at £550.
