Director, Railway Performance Salary expected to be in the range of £140-160K


The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) is the independent safety and economic regulator for Britain’s railways, working to ensure a safe, efficient and effective service for all its users. Rail has a big role to play in Britain’s economic prosperity and connectivity. It is an exciting and challenging time for the railways with very significant new investment to support economic growth and to link communities. The Government has signalled its intention to give ORR a wider role at the heart of industry efficiency and in improving the passenger experience.


As a full member of ORR’s Board, the Director, Railway Performance will play a key role in these changes. The Director and his/her team will hold Network Rail to account for its performance and for excellence in its management of infrastructure assets, providing expert advice and leadership across ORR to shape and support its work to meet the new challenges it faces across the rail industry.

Candidates will bring significant asset management experience at a senior level in rail or a comparable regulated sector, and a thorough understanding of how regulation can help to drive efficiency and quality of service. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering and influencing change in the private and/or public sector, working with a wide range of stakeholders, and operating at or close to Board level.

Chief Executive - Irish Rail The Board of Irish Rail wishes to appoint a successor to the current Chief Executive who will be retiring early next year.


Irish Rail, headquartered in Dublin and employing 4000 staff, is the state owned company with responsibility for both the rail infrastructure and the operation of safe, efficient intercity, commuter services, and freight throughout Ireland. Over €2 billion has been invested in new rolling stock and infrastructure in recent years and there were 37.4million passenger journeys in 2011 with revenues (including government subvention) of €349million


The incoming Chief Executive will continue to provide strong leadership to Irish Rail in a challenging commercial environment, with focus on profitable revenue growth and continuing cost reduction, together with developing longer term strategies for further enhancements to infrastructure and train services. He/she will also have the immediate task of implementing the new organisational structure required to make Irish Rail compliant with EU rail regulations following the end of its derogation in March 2013.


This key position requires an exceptional senior executive with proven operational experience at or near MD level in a relevant


railway environment. The person appointed will bring a record of successful achievement in a change management environment, and have outstanding team leadership and management skills. Remuneration will be at an appropriate senior level
