he City of Dana Point boasts roughly 7.5 miles of coast- line. Those who designed
the city’s parks made sure to take advantage of the city’s sand and water, both directly and from points inland. Many of the parks of- fer scenic coastal views with plenty of green space to enjoy. Lantern Bay Park serves as an ideal picnic spot, playground and site for outdoor wedding cer- emonies. The park even becomes a movie theater in the summer months. As part of Dana Point’s Movies in the Park series, Lantern Bay Park is transformed into a place where families can come out and enjoy a free movie and popcorn. A mini amphitheater section of the park overlooks the Harbor where local theater troupes stage the occasional Shakespeare in the park production. Lantern Bay also has a basketball court where locals come to play pick-up style games. Pines Park offers impressive ocean views while doubling as one of the more useful parks in

Dana Point. The park provides ample open space, two large playground structures for children and barbecue grills. The large strip of grass that runs parallel to Camino Capistrano is a popular location for wedding ceremonies as well as the backdrop for high school prom photos. At dusk, Pines Park is popular for another reason: It offers one of the city’s most breathtaking views of the sun set- ting over the Pacific. They don’t call it Pines Park for nothing. The space is home to sev-
eral mature pine trees—some with low-lying trunks, irregularly shaped by the wind—that give the park its character and a signature look. The City of Dana Point maintains
more than 20 parks, each offering unique features, experiences and vistas. Whether looking for the perfect spot to soak up the sun, a great playground for the kids or the best view in town, it’s hard to go wrong when visiting Dana Point parks.
