ana Point’s public schools are part of the Capistrano Unified School District.
Founded in 1965, Capistrano Uni- fied encompasses 195 square miles in seven cities and a portion of the unincorporated area of Orange County. With 56 campuses, it is the largest employer in south Orange County. Just as Dana Point has grown in the past 65 years, Capist- rano Unified continues to grow. In the last 18 years, the district grew by nearly 27,000 students, opened 31 schools and earned 50 California Distinguished School recognitions and 11 National Blue Ribbon recog- nitions. In 2012, five different high schools in Capistrano Unified were named to Newsweek Magazine’s America’s Best High Schools list.
