PRESIDENT MESSAGE FROM THE 85 OLYMPIC MEDALS AND COUNTING
Greetings, As I write these words for the Spring Edition
of “The Racing Blade,” I am reminded at just how fast we go from skating season to skating season. It seems like just yesterday I sat down to write something for the Fall Edition with the 2011-2012 season just getting underway. Here we are, at the start of the 2012-2013 season. Before you know it, the 2014 Winter Olympics will be here; they are
literally just around the corner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Board of Directors,
all of our sponsors, skaters, staff, officials, coaches, parents and the many volunteers for all your support and hard work this past season. While speedskating might be considered a small sport compared to others, without your efforts, support and guidance, what we currently provide our members would not be possible. As we head into the summer months, the excitement is rising for
the Olympic Summer Games in London, England. At some point or another, my guess is that each of you will be tuning in to watch one of the events during the two weeks of Olympic coverage. GO TEAM USA! At the conclusion of the Summer Games in London, the event I am
really looking forward to is the launching of US Speedskating’s new website. The new website will be another great tool that we have to help keep the lines of communication open with updates about what is happening within the sport of speedskating. It will join “Inside Track” and the occasional e-mail blasts that members receive as needed to help get the latest information and results out to our members, rela- tives and friends. Not only will it contain the usual pieces of informa- tion that we are accustomed to seeing on our older website, but there will be an area where you can follow along with what is happening on the Committee level as reports of meetings are posted as well as other things. While the Committees continue to work between the Spring and Fall Board Meetings, the new website will be a key component for staying up to date. Look for the return of our “Find a Club” page with the new website as well. As you begin to work towards the start of the next season, have a safe and wonderful summer!
