US SPEEDSKATING AND THE PETTIT NATIONAL ICE CENTER ANNOUNCE APPOINTMENT OF INTERIM DIRECTOR FOR THE ACADEMY OF SKATING EXCELLENCE US Speedskating and the Pet-
tit National Ice Center, with the help and partnership of the United States Olympic Committee, are pleased to formally announce the Academy of Skating Excellence initiative. The Academy of Skating Excellence
is intended to be a world-class skat- ing and training development center for high performance athletes, the core of which will encompass the National Speedskating Training Cen- ter Mid-West for US Speedskating. Long track and short track speeds- kating programs, as well as an inline program with an ice component, will form the core of a new approach to training for these sports at the Acad- emy. Both traditional and innovative approaches to high performance de-
velopment athlete programming, as well as cross over training opportu- nities between disciplines will be an integral part of the programs offered. In order to move this initiative for-
